High-yield savings
Keep your savings earning. Keep checking covered.
Stop overdrafting just because your money is in the wrong place. Assign every dollar a job even while it sits in a high-yield savings account, and Tare tells you when checking needs a top-up, and exactly how much.
Cash guardrails are part of the free plan.
Try it
Checking is $470.00 short. Categories paid from checking hold $3,110.00, and checking has $2,640.00.
Checking covers everything budgeted from it.
High interest shouldn't mean overdraft risk.
Envelope budgets say what money is for, not where it is. Keep most of it in savings for the interest, and the budget can say $600 for groceries while checking holds $200. You find out at the register.
Categories say what money is for. Tare also checks where it is.
Every category that's paid from checking counts against what checking holds. When checking can't cover them, Tare says so before a bill bounces.
How it works
Set it once. Get a nudge when it matters.
-
01Tell Tare where savings live
Pin a category to the account its money sits in: the emergency fund to your high-yield savings, the vacation fund to its own account. Everything else is assumed to be paid from checking.
-
02Tare watches checking
It adds up what's budgeted from checking, plus card spending that checking will pay off, and compares it with what checking holds. Card purchases count, because paying the card comes out of checking too.
-
03It tells you when, and how much
When checking falls short, you see the gap and a suggested transfer, rounded up to the nearest $10, from the savings account with the most unpinned money. Money pinned to a goal is never suggested. Tare doesn't move money for you; make the transfer at your bank, then record it.
Questions
Savings and checking
Is there a buffer I have to keep in checking?
No. Every dollar still has a job. Tare only watches where those dollars sit, and speaks up when checking can't cover what's budgeted from it.
Does Tare move money between my accounts?
No. It suggests the transfer and records it when you tell it to. With Autopilot, the transfer your bank reports is matched to the one you recorded, so it's never counted twice.
What about credit cards?
Card spending counts toward what checking needs to cover, since that's where the card payment comes from. See how cards work in Tare.
